Reg Mombassa

Christopher O'Doherty, a.k.a Reg Mombassa, is a New Zealand-born Australian artist, designer and musician who is known for his iconic work with Mambo since 1988 and as a founding member of the legendary band Mental As Anything and current member of Dog Trumpet. His art tackles Australian socio-political themes with his signature dry wit and is exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW, The National Gallery of Australia and the British Museum amongst others.

Spinifex Group

Spinifex Group is a multidisciplinary experiential content studio who have been transforming stories into powerful and emotional experiences for over 30 years. Renowned for transforming buildings into canvases for mesmerising light displays, their creative studio melds traditional storytelling with cutting-edge technology. They are a long-term partner of Vivid Sydney, having worked with the festival since 2011.

Hit the road with national icon Reg Mombassa as retro-futuristic robots, one-eyed koalas and other strange creatures take over Customs House. As one of Australia’s most beloved artists, Reg immerses us in an other-worldly journey, presented in his signature style.

Here, nothing is what it seems. A rebel at heart, his playful but biting humour plays with established Australian icons in a strange new light. We are left to question our collective identity and what it means to be human.

Dog Trumpet will be performing live and free at Customs House on Saturday 25 May at 7.30pm.
